About two acres of the Peace Garden in Turtle mountains on the Manitoba North Dakota border will be planted to trees and shrubs by the Manitoba horticultural society. Each plant will be labelled for visitors to learn local growth. Manitoba's 20 horticultural societies funded the project with hopes of a summer field day or picnic. Since 1932, the site has ornamental drives, natural amphitheatre, fountains, flower beds, broad lawns, picnic shelters, tourist cabins and the assembly lodge serving visitors.

Manitoba Gas Tax Stands Lowest in Canada
Manitoba holds the lowest gasoline tax in the country, per Treasurer R. D. Turner. Operating costs per car in 1951 averaged 58 dollars versus a national 88 dollars in taxes and licenses, with registrations doubling from 1946 to 1952 to 200,332. Over 90 percent of Manitoba vehicle accidents involve insured drivers, and the unsatisfied judgment fund protects victims. The highways branch spent over 65 million dollars from 1946 to 1952 on safer, more durable roads, surpassing 44 million dollars from gas tax and registration fees in the same era.
