Rivers School Board Members Meet in March Session

The Rivers School Trustees met Wednesday at 8 pm with all members present except Alex Beattie. Minutes were approved. Principal and Attendance Officer February reports read. Department of Education correspondence on school vans and Grants discussed. Copp Clark Co. to distribute free World Maps. five maps accepted. Accounts totaling 223.79 approved. Mrs. Grant reported on a Winnipeg choral training trip. Consideration of a Grade 12 room opening postponed pending information. The Principal and Secretary-Treasurer to gather needed data. The meeting adjourned.

The Daly Rural Council met Tuesday March 3 with all members present Reeve presiding Minutes of prior meeting read and adopted Correspondence from PD W Beaubier Jas Gardiner J G McKenzie and others about 1936 seed needs Notes from Brandon General Hospital Winnipeg General Hospital and City of Winnipeg plus Manitoba Tax Commission and Agriculture department Reappointment of a Noxious Weeds Inspector discussed and approved Several by laws read and finalized Finance Committee report approved including payment of expenses for Reeve Beattie Clark and others Subscriptions offered wood in lieu of cash for accounts noted.

Manitoba Winter Fair Promises Sheep Dog Entertainment

The Manitoba Winter Fair runs March 16 to 20 with sheep dogs performing their skilled acts. Last year’s crowds enjoyed the dogs at the Royal Winter Fair, and this year tickets cost a quarter for one admission plus a chance at major and daily prizes. A grand prize of $26,000 in seed grain will be awarded on Friday March 20.

Some Farmers Not to Get Bonus

Ottawa reports that western grain growers' request to treat non pool farmers the same as pool sellers of 1930 wheat has been refused. The appeal to reimburse losses for those who sold last August before the guaranteed price of 8713 cents a bushel took effect was also denied.

Canadian Pilgrimage to Vimy Memorial Next July

The great pilgrimage from Montreal to Vimy France to unveil the Canadian memorial to fallen troops will begin July 15 with four liners carrying ex service men and relatives. Up to 3,700 pilgrims are booked and the march may be attended by Rt Hon W L McKenzie King. The Canadian Legion sponsors the event and promises limited accommodation due to ship capacity. Meanwhile the Dominion Apiarist reports thousands of package bees arriving from the southern states to Canada for spring apiary use with care instructions for handling and installation.
