Mrs G H Roberts returned from Winnipeg after a serious operation at the General Hospital. The Brandon City Band performed a short program on Sunday evening, showcasing efficient music. A pest, the small green tree grub, threatens town trees and must be exterminated promptly to keep them beautiful.
The meeting of the Union Adult Bible Class at the Methodist Church elected officers with Mrs. Chater as President and Mrs. McFadden as Vice President. Mr. R Madden served as chair and was named Teacher and Sec Treas. Other posts went to Miss J I Johnstone and Messrs C Johnstone H Warehaw and C Anear for committees.
Daly Council met in Wheatland on June 7 with all members present. The minutes of the prior meeting were approved and various correspondences discussed from the Highway Commissioner, the district engineer, the Department of Education, the Tax Commission and the Highway Commission about bridges, culverts and school amendments. A Brandon Fair Board deputation spoke to the council and Dr. Lyon of Rivers sought a $250 bill for services related to Mrs. Nesbitt. a resolution to pay half, $125, passed with yeas Blatchford White Bradley Johnson and nays Chapman. Resolutions approved included paying the Reeve Secretary Treasurer and Assessor $5 each for Brandon taxation visits, and granting $225 to the Salvation Army as last year’s amount.
