The Daly Ladies Aid hosts its annual Strawberry Social at the home of Mr and Mrs Orlo Brown on Thursday June 21. A varied program of sports and a sale of work accompany the event. Admission 35 cents for adults, 20 cents for children.
Fifty years ago Rapid City was laid out by J W Harris according to Our Exchanges. The Free Press notes Manitoba votes on local option show pressure to legalize liquor sales to enforce the law, while the Russell Banner cites limited police sympathy and questions if the new law will improve enforcement.
Memorial Service scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Grounds with a parade led by the 45th Battalion Band and Veterans. Rivers and Daly Councils, School Board, and officiating ministers will join at the Methodist Church. A concert by the band follows the service. hymns and rites prepared by St. James United Churches committees.
Ten years ago soldiers passed through Rivers eastbound for overseas. R. G. Sisclair returned from Halifax and resumed his railway post. A Saturday meeting discussed a summer fair. Wheatland picnic today drew many from Rivers. John Lindsay traveled to Winnipeg and returned with his wife from Scotland.
The big field day planned for Friday in Rapid City was postponed due to heavy rain that left roads impassable. After consultations, officials moved the date to Thursday June 14 and express hope for a successful event.
Tuesday vote totals show Brandon with 3214 in favor and 1949 against beer parlors. In Ham ion ta, the village supported 46 for and 214 against, while rural areas stood at 43 for and 375 against.
A large audience filled Oddfellows Hall for a June 6 pianoforte recital by Mr Wilkes pupils. The program featured many pieces by Ruth Riddick Mervin Moxley and others with Mrs E Switzer delivering readings and Enid Orth reading an appreciative address to Mr Wilkes.
Notice invites veterans to a Memorial Service next Sunday in Alabama. Veterans should gather at the town hall at 6 30 p.m. to march in the parade to the monument.
The Nine Allisans troupe, eight to ten performers, arrives in Canada as a new feature at the Provincial Exhibition. They perform high risk stunts including partners catapulted into the air, demanding precise timing and strength. The act has Paris London and Berlin pedigree and promises a sensational display before the grandstand.
The Manitoba Government plans to abolish scattered political appointments and establish twelve to fifteen legally trained police magistrates dispersed across the province. Each will oversee defined districts, travel for court sessions, and be salaried, aiming to reduce appeals and speed justice while cutting overall costs.
