Rebekah Lodges Gather in Rivers District Meeting

Rebekah Lodges from Hamiota Rapid City and Qak River join Rivers lodge for the annual district meeting. About 60 attend the afternoon session with more arriving for the evening address by Mrs Margaret Cowan from Transcona. First session at 2:00 in Ukrainian hall, adjourns at 5:30 for dinner served by St James church WA group.

Big Reunion for the Bellamys on Golden Wedding

A large family gathering marks the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. John Bellamy. About 53 relatives from Canada and the United States will attend a dinner at their son Robert Bellamy’s home starting 8:00 p.m. They married in Winnipeg on June 17, 1902, after living in Minnedosa and Rivers for decades, and had 12 children seven sons and five daughters.

Canvassers for the Red Cross in Bradwardine and Lothair gathered sums from locals. J F Topinka won $121.25 in Bradwardine while G B Seater collected $115 in Lothair. A school play Aunt Tillie Goes to Town was staged June 6 at the agricultural hall Harding.

Harbor Affair of 1813 Recalled by Nova Scotians

Nova Scotians staged a brief observance at the navy cemetery in June to recall the 1813 capture of the US frigate Chesapeake off Boston Harbor by the British frigate Shannon. The anniversary ceremony lasted longer than the 11 minutes of the engagement and the service ran about 15 minutes.
