Flooded Red River valley threatens Manitoba wheat crop
Mortey Cooper reports that about 2,000 Red River Valley farmers await land re emergence after a three week flood along the Red River. Only a miracle could save many wheat growers with an expected loss near 20 million dollars. Roughly 500,000 acres of wheat land flooded leaves 2,662,000 acres to be sown in Manitoba, and seeding is just starting with potential shift to coarse grains. The province, historically wheat dependent, faces broader economic fallout if a large crop is not produced.
