The Salvation Army has aided Canadian soldiers with canteens rest rooms hostels and ambulances and now Rivers residents will support a Red Shield Campaign August 5 and 6. The drive aims to fund homes for war homeless women and children and assist defenders and dependents.
The regular meeting will be at the Rest Room on Wednesday July 30 at 3. Miss Price from Extension Service Dept will run a dressmaking course for the Girls Club the week of July 28 in the town hall hours 10 to 12 and 2 to 5. Prizes for the Boys and Girls Fair include Middy first prize 1.50 second 1 and Poultry best pair first 1.50 second 1. On Saturday the 19th WI members bid farewell to Mrs. Sargent president for two years who received a cut glass cream and sugar bowl and spoon tray as a token of esteem. She leaves for a new home with best wishes from friends.
The Duke of Connaught and his party are expected to make a brief stop at Rivers Sunday morning. The Ladies Baseball Club has won prize money five times this season and suffered one defeat. The Fire Dept. responded to a call at the residence of E. D. Button, while Mrs. M. Willison of Grat a Ontario has been visiting the district.
