The Canadian Medical Association urges diphtheria immunization to prevent the disease after noting 1,030 deaths in 1927. It argues immunity via toxoid injections protects children, especially before age six, and calls parents to act now at 183 College Street.
The 19th annual Rivers Agricultural Society summer fair will be held next Wednesday July 24 with a likely large crowd and extensive exhibits. Entries should be made early to ease last minute work for the secretary, as stock and produce displays are encouraged and expected to draw strong interest.
The Gazette extends best wishes for a happy birthday to R. G. Sisclair on July 20, to Jack Tivy on the 20th, to Miss Ethel Cluff on the 21st, to Mrs. J. H. Maxwell on the 23rd, and to Thos. Suthers of Armstrong Ontario on the 23rd.
Gladys Nesbitt and William Graham wed at the home of Mr and Mrs J Alteman in Bradwardine on Saturday July 6. The ceremony was conducted by Rev E Gilmore Smith of Kenton. Guests included 60 with decor, music, supper, and a bridal party led by Edythe Nesbitt. The couple will reside in Bradwardine.
The Church Army Crusaders who visited Rivers earlier in spring will be at Bradwardine all of next week.
Municipal Commissioners have raised rates in many areas with some doubles and cases tripling from last year. Government blame is not complete as higher demand for roads pensions and other programs requires funding. Two longtime town figures Frank Pringle and Joe Darlington visit Rivers for a few days recalling their youth. Frank led the local hockey scene eighteen to twenty years ago while Joe dominated baseball and guided the Secats to early wins. Their return stirs nostalgia in residents.
Four carloads of Rivers Golf Club members played at Hamiota in Free Press Competition games. Hamiota plans return matches today and will reopen its clubhouse after noon following a major improvement.
