In Independent, Biggar, residents reported tar essence entering a water main but the water system was drained and odor should fade today. No deaths or serious illness occurred as residents were advised to drink lake icewater. Cardale and Oak River notes mention radio and social events.
The Canadian National Railways broadcasting station at Calgary made a remarkable long distance reception feat reaching Fiji and Samoa. On November 19 the Calgary signal was picked up at 5 30 pm on November 20 by Rev Richard Piper of Fiji and M G Jamies in Apia Samoa, aided by time differences.
Rivers Curling Club held a Friday meeting with strong attendance including many ladies. The club set up a bonspiel for Feb 16 and fixed season fees at 4.50 with rinks chosen for the second schedule led by R D Britton and J A McKenzie among others. All games will start at 7 30 p m.
Chas. None and Family express heartfelt thanks to friends for sympathy and the many floral tributes shown after their bereavement.

Mrs. Johnnu McKellar won the wall clock from Jas. Thompson when her ticket 11.57 a.m. was closest to the clock stopping near 12.00. I. Marsh, jeweler, judged 11.57 the winner though a later notice says 11.58 claimed. Ernie Johnson held 11.75 but missed the earlier call and accepted the ruling.
A year after rats appeared in Manitoba they are increasing in numbers with many sightings in the district. A rising contempt in the daily press over the States' non participation is noted. In other news Americas Sister Britton was installed as N G of Friendship Rebekah Lodge.
The Canadian Pacific will launch two twin screw oil burning steamers the Princess Kathleen and Prince of Marguerite to operate among Vancouver Victoria and Seattle. The ships promise 2234 knot speeds with five decks and capacity for 326 first class night passengers and over a thousand day passengers including space for motor cars. Service is slated to begin early in 1925 with improved inland and coastal traffic and summer tourism to Vancouver Island.
