Obituary for Mrs Freeman Crane in Winnipeg

Joanna Sixclair Crane died at Winnipeg General Hospital on January 14 1923 after living with her husband in Rivers Uinta Church parish area. A quiet unassuming woman she earned many friends during her years in the community. Her husband and two small children survive her with the deepest sympathy offered.

Rivers Agricultural Society Opens Travelling Library

The Rivers Agricultural Society obtained a Travelling Library from the Extension Service for Rivers and district. Mrs. R. B. Lee of 4th Avenue is named Librarian. A 25 cent charging card fee covers expenses and borrower use is allowed under terms on the book cover. Applications for books go through the librarian.

Winter Carnival Queen Contest Promises Strong Showing

The Annual Winter Carnival set for Monday February 12 features Queen candidates from CNR Miss L Doncaster Anglican Church Mrs N Tivy Snowshoe Club Buss L Bastard Rebekah Lodge Mrs E Tivy. Balloting closes February 9 with tickets sold at local stores and ballots shown in McKenzies window and Bijou screen.

Riv ers School Board awards 1923 van route contract

At a special Riv ers School Board meeting on a Saturday evening the van route No Four contract was awarded to W Rea after bids of D D Turney 3.50 per day J H Booth 3.75 per day and W Rea 4.00 per day were opened.

Curling Club Opens Bonspiel Membership Applications

The Rivers Curling Club invites applicants for entry to the Bonspiel and second schedule. The season fee remains five dollars, payable to the secretary with the entry.

Death of Principal McNevin in Rivers Manitoba

Principal Angus McNevin died at home on Tuesday January 16 in his 61st year. Born in Sydney Ontario he moved to Manitoba in 1893 and taught there since, arriving at Rivers in 1921. Funeral held January 17 at Union Church with Rev Hall and Rev Martin. He left a widow and seven children and was honored by pupils and the community.

Rivers Curling Club Sets Jan 29 Bonspiel Schedule

Rivers Curling Club plans its Annual Bonspiel starting January 29 with H R Moxley and Secretary Treland as bonspiel secretaries. Committees span prize advertising ice reception and more. Membership and ice fees set at 5 dollars to cover the bonspiel and second schedule. entries due January 27.

Lothair Literary Society Meeting Adopts Debated Theme

The Lothair Literary Society met on Tuesday evening. After opening hymn the minutes were read and adopted. The debate committee appointed leaders to discuss next time, with Winn taking charge. the program included recitations and a dialogue.

Snowshoe Club Holds Initial Tramp and Dance

The Snowshoe Club enjoyed a good time on their initial tramp last Monday with twenty members out. They will meet again next Monday at 7 30 p m at the depot for a return hike, lunch, and a short dance afterward. The club invites all interested to join, membership not limited.

Whist Drive by Sons of England Next Friday

The next Whist Drive of the Sons of England is set for Friday January 26 at the 30 and Hail venue. Admission is 35 cents and all enthusiasts of the game are invited to attend.
