The Gazette editor and publisher Graham F Barkers departed for Vancouver B C to undergo an operation at a hospital there He will be away this day afternoon and the paper hopes to publish regularly in his absence Miss Mary Parker of Saskatoon visited with her parents during Christmas and New Year celebrations. several local residents were noted for year end activities and social gatherings The piece also records local engagements, visits and community events including a New Year party at the C A T C station and several names and places in the town

Hershey urges extension of draft law as war insurance

Maj. Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of United States selective service, told Congress the draft law should be extended. He called it the "cheapest insurance against war" and noted the law is set to expire June 24 and has not been used for almost a year.
