Obituary: Mrs Jane Burt Pioneer of Local District
The Gazette notes the death of Mrs Jane Burt at 78 years 11 months 13 days after residing in the district across Manitoba. Born January 15 1854 in Lanark County Ontario she married George Burt and moved from Manitoba to farms near Bradwardine and Rivers before settling in town. Survived by two sons Levi and Arthur G two daughters Mrs Reid and Miss Minnie ten grandchildren. son-in-law Mrs Jahrig predeceased her. Interment followed a United Church service in Oak River.

Public Meeting Recommends Railway Policy Balance in Canada
The Citizens and Ratepayers of Rivers met December 29 1932 at Town Hall and passed a resolution urging government and Senate action to protect railway employees and maintain Canadian National and Canadian Pacific identities. They advocate cooperation to cut wasteful rivalries, preserve local bonds, and support amalgamation to stabilize employment for 74 families on relief and safeguard municipal finances. The Rivers Board of Trade endorsed the motion.
