Winnipeg visitor and local gatherings noted in Rivers

H. E. Ferman visited Winnipeg last week while Mrs W. Vickery of Hakota renewed acquaintances in Rivers. A Rivers rink skipped by Jack Graham participated in the Minne dasa docsplel event last week.

WMS Meeting and Community Visits Highlight Week

A Wednesday WMS meeting in Rivers featured ten members at Miss Jean Johnstone’s home on Feb 20. The group planned blocks for a clothing drive overseas and heard a hospital letter read by Mrs. Thedauttner. Local visits included Helen McDonald of Brandon and Mrs. A. Tillman of Winnipeg visiting relatives.

Day of Prayer Service Friday in Rivers United Church

An annual World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday at the United Church in Rivers starting at 3 00 pm. The guest speaker will be Rev B J Stibbards CIATC padre P. Women from Protestant denominations will participate.

Bradwardine Rinks Sweep Oak River Bonspiel

At Oak River bonspiel, Bradwardine rinks claimed three prizes as 51 rinks competed. T Gerrard won first in the second event, L Lindsay first in the electric, R Dobson second in the electric. eight local rinks joined the Harding bonspiel led by John Steski A Wedderburn W McKenzie T Gerrard W Lowe G Baily W yeitch and M Baily. In high school play, first event winners were J Edwards G Gorham M Pigg D Woods. second event winner Jack Wood with W Shurvell M Reid and E McLean placing. Vaughan Dowland of Brandon visited relatives, while Donald Crawford and cousin Miss Jean Houston were in Wilkie. St Matthew's W.A. met at Mrs Roy Gerrard home with ten members and one visitor. Hardwood floor work began in the legion hall with wallboard lining added.

Dance Aids Shriners Fund in Winnipeg Event

A dance in aid of the Shriners crippled children's home in Winnipeg attracted a good crowd and raised a sizable sum. Winnipeg papers publicized the affair with a photo of Ladies Auxiliary president Mrs Ruby Konsmo handing a $300 cheque to Shriners representative H Rungay.
