The Assessment Roll for the Town of Rivers is deposited at the office and open for inspection until March 6, 1925. Complaints must be filed ten days before the Court of Revision sitting on March 18, 1925 at 8 p.m. at the Town Hall.
The town mourns the loss of Eric Isabel youngest child of Mr and Mrs J E Thompson who would have turned four on March 10. The little girl fell ill for several days and passed away Friday evening. A funeral was held Sunday afternoon with Rev S A Martin officiating and many wreaths honoring the child. The bereaved parents receive heartfelt sympathy from a large circle of friends.
The Day of Prayer for Missions is observed on the 61st Friday in Lent this year February 27 in Rivers St James Church hosts a 3 45 pm meeting. Town women are urged to keep the date and attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Jos. E. Thompson express heartfelt thanks to friends for sympathy after their bereavement, for acts of kindness letters and other expressions, and for the beautiful flowers sent.
Rivers Curling Club began its annual bonspiel with games starting Monday evening. Ten ends per match, two regular rinks plus one from Carnegie participate, with four games nightly at 7 and 9. Prizes include gold cuff links, salad dishes, sweaters, and chocolates displayed at the drug store window.
The Aikins Event lists prizes including 2-2 Eversharp pencils 2 Parker fountain pens and 4 boxes chocolates. Donations come from Jas A McKenzie H R Moxley Wareham L Marsh T W Offen and others. The cup and shield are by C N R Shops with multiple small items donated to the Rivers Curling Club.
Rivers observes Father and Son Week with an upcoming banquet in Union Church parlors on Thursday the 26th at 6 30. The event invites every father and boy 12 and up with Mrs Grummetts class catering and a program of toasts songs and speeches. Tickets cost 50 cents for men and older boys and 35 cents for boys aged 12 to 14.
Mr and Mrs Nash express gratitude to the many friends who arrived quickly Friday evening when the alarm was raised to end the girl.
The Rivers Bonspiel starts March 8 with a Rivers vs Kenton hockey match on a Thursday evening, followed by a special train arrival. A government buyer visits Friday to purchase horses for cavalry use. Dr. Griffith named Provincial Coroner. Rivers Red Cross meets Fridays at town hall to sew for soldiers.
The Princess Kathleen, built by John Brown and Company for the Canadian Pacific line, completed trials with a speed of 22.5 knots and will soon join the Princess Marguerite in service between Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle. At 368 feet, the five deck liners boast luxurious passenger accommodations and aim to speed port-to-port travel along the Pacific Coast. The Kathleen departed Clyde January 15 on a thirty day voyage via Azores and the Caribbean to reach Vancouver, while the Marguerite is set to leave Clyde on March 16.
