Rivers Council Minutes Document February Meeting Actions
The Rivers Council held a February meeting with Mayor Korman presiding. Reports from the Finance Committee were approved, including accounts of 723.28 and 41.13 for electric light, snow plow plan adjustments, tax arrears handling, hotel license approval for 1923, and ordering eight copies of The Western Municipal News. Committees for 1923 were named: Finance Offen Cousins. Health and Relief Frame Swart. Fire Water and Light Start Wiegand. Public Works Frame Wiegand. Rink Cousins Thomas. Assessment and Land Thomas Offen. The council adjourned.

Quiet wedding at the Manse George Street
Ray Storey daughter of Mr and Mrs Beaumont of the city married Roy Nesbitt of Oak River Manitoba son of Mr and Mrs Nesbitt of Rivers. The Rev A S Kerr performed the ceremony with Ruth Beaumont as bridesmaid and John Beaumont as best man. The couple will reside in Oak River.

Obituary for James Woon Gordon in Canadian district
James W Gordon dies suddenly at age 70 in Artland Saskatchewan after heart pains. Born in Scotland in 1861 he married Helen Pringle in 1886 and had six sons. he helped found Learig School District and served as its trustee chair. He emigrated to Canada in 1905 living in Nesbitt Rivers and later Artland where he farmed. He was a devout Presbyterian and beloved for hospitality and honesty. He leaves widow Helen and five sons John James Robert S Thomas and Alfred and many friends.

Rivers Second Winter Carnival Opens Amid Snow and Snowy Skies
The Rivers Winter Carnival held its second event despite cold, wind and snow. Crowds voted for the Carnival Queen with Miss Bastard named queen after an evening ceremony. Prizes and costumes drew praise, with a dance to follow and races scheduled for Thursday at 7 30 at the rink.
Elocution Contest a Notable Union Church Event
The Elocution Contest at Union Church last Friday drew 13 contestants. In the Junior Group Margaret Martin and Elsie Barker won prizes. in the Senior Group May Paddock and Ida Kelly were prize recipients. T W Offen was chairman and Miss J A Johnstone presented prizes. The Ladies thank judges and contributors and anticipate another contest for its educational value.
