The Rivers Hockey Club announces a district hockey tournament to be held Friday February 15. Top teams are expected to participate. Admission for adults 25 cents, children 10 cents grants access to all games. A Valentine Dance with Half Good music will follow at the 100 F venue.
The Canadian Passenger Association Western Lines announces travel bargains for March covering Western Canada to Eastern Canada stations including Sault Ste. Marie Sudbury Capreol Cochran e Windsor Sarnia and East Stopovers allowed at Port Arthur Armstrong and East Tickets on sale March 3 to 16 good for 30 days from sale date Three fare groups One cent per mile day coaches One cent and a quarter per mile tourist sleepers with berth One and a half cent per mile standard sleepers and parlor cars with accommodation details preservation of names and places during the travel window.
The Rivers School Trustees held their regular meeting on Wednesday February 6 with J T Bowman chairing. They accepted the Finance Committee report paying 45 16 and approved purchase of Dominion deep seam cobble coal at 4 25 per ton for the school basement. Principal and Attendance Officer January reports were filed. Invitations were extended to visit Feb 7 and 8 for Education Week ceremonies.
United Church announces Sunday services February 17 on The Influence of Jesus. Speakers Daly at 11 a.m. Pettapiece at 3 p.m. Rivers at 7:30 p.m. Attendance urged to support the church.
The Daly Rural Council met at Rivers on Tuesday February 5 with all members present led by the Reeve. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved and various notices, bylaws, and financial items were discussed including weed inspector appointment, hospital accounts, and tax assessments.
The Rivers bonspiel advances with Musgrove leading unbeaten at five straight wins. The Executive added a new event the Citizens to provide more games for all entries as spectators enjoy ideal weather and United Ladies Aid serves refreshments in the waiting room.
Visitors supported Education Week with both sessions drawing large crowds as teachers and staff presented exhibits in writing art and projects. Students delivered well prepared speeches on topics from Geography to National Geographic inspired works reflecting strong preparation and engagement.
The Sixteen Hundred Club, under the Manitoba Insurance Act, must pay $2,000 and costs to a Selkirk widow. The ruling references the club's legal obligations under provincial insurance law.
Two war memorial scholarships of £200 each are awarded by the Alumni Federation of the University of Toronto to Wilfad Davison of Blenheim Ont and George E. Thurman of Brandon Man. Thurman shares the second award with Miss Isabelle Jordan of Toronto. Thurman is McMaster trained in economics and science, and his father was killed in action.
The service at St James' is canceled for Sunday February 17 as announced by church officials. The note urges parishioners to adjust plans and watch for further updates from the St James' congregation.
