Our correspondent reports on social life and bargains with a playful tone. Mrs W T Dyer left for Winnipeg at week’s end and Miss Madge Rutherford visits her sister there. A pie social is planned at Daly church on Thursday the 9th. all are invited.
The Rivers Bonspiel concluded Friday night with finals in the Grand Challenge won by J C Stone and Alf Wareham. Stone’s rink edged a close finish requiring a measuring rock for a thirteenth end. Cliff Payne captured the Aikins event, Jim McKenzie won the Consolation, and J M McKenzie led the Rivers entries. Weather disrupted games on the skating rink but improved later with visitors including Bert Varcoe of Brandon adding zest to the competition.
Y P S convened Monday evening with a helpful program led by Mrs Martin on a fifteen minute Bible Study. Mrs J Grummett led a discussion, roll call showed only fifteen of sixty present, urging members to attend next week's missionary committee led meeting organized by Miss C Johnstone.

Miss Jessie Miners led the official counts to win the Carnival Queen title at the Big Ice Carnival in Rivers. Miss Gladys Dunsmore and Mildred Mitchell were named as her princesses with Mrs Forman and Mrs Higginson as ladies in waiting. A procession to the skating rink will precede a carnival ball in Wagar Hall.
The Union Church urges community attendance at Sunday evening services with a sermon on forgiveness from Psalms 32 1 and a closing song. The notice also discusses newspaper advertising costs and the need for paid space to sustain publication.
The Lothair Literary Society hosted a box social at Mrs Alf Vickery's on Friday night with B M Harvey as chairman. The program included instrumental numbers by Draper and Hardie, readings from The Truth, a recitation by Frank Bruce, a violin solo by Robertann, comic selections by Draper, a dialogue The Way to Windham by Albert Airy and Geo Finsihe, chorus If I had a home sweet name, recitation Clifford Burt, reading The Bumpera Degree Charley Vickery, speech QO C Harvey Chartus Old Black Joe joke by Draper, solo by Mrs Burt, and a Mizpah Benediction. The meeting ended with God Save the King.
Regular River Town Council meeting notes quorum with Councillor Nesbitt absent. Motions adopt minutes approval of $382.80 accounts. Readings completed for ByLaws 146 148 149 appointing scavenger poundkeeper and related clerk treasurer actions. Notices include Gazette insertions and tax relief terms.
