Town council advised several businessmen last week to stop burning refuse on remaining lots except in proper incinerators. No refuse may be burned after 6:00 p.m., the council stated, outlining strict limits on disposal.
The Independent reports longtime railroader T. J. Lang has retired recently at Biggar Saskatchewan. Lang worked out of Riverton and served decades in the industry with steady service and local ties.
The report notes that an engineer known as efu in 1908 had been at Biggar since 1916, marking a lengthy tenure with the firm.
Thomas Times-Journal questions railroad policy requiring conductors to remove their hats in dining cars. The letter argues the rule, aimed as courtesy to passengers, interferes with conductors' duties and cites New York Central and Michigan Central Canada division as affected lines. The writer seeks to know why officials impose the rule.
Found and Out lists Christmas tree entertainments starting next week across town and district. The Canadian Legion will hold its annual tree event December 17 at the Four Star theatre. Mr and Mrs L Janz attended a Brandon wedding. Margaret Mills left for Lethbridge after a visit with her parents. The CGIT annual candle light service will be held Sunday at 7 30 in the United Church.
Mr and Mrs John Shanks of Pettapiece marked their diamond wedding on Tuesday. He arrived in the district in 1879 and she came west in 1882. they wed in 1887. Their only other wedding party survivor is Miss Eleanora Short of Rapid City. The couple have two sons and two daughters.
The St James W A group held its annual meeting on December 3. Officers elected for the year include President Mrs A Richardson, Vice-President Mrs C Blandford, Secretary Mrs P Bird, Treasurer Mrs R B Riddick, plus helpers and various secretaries. Honorary members listed are Mesdames W G Thomas, T Brown, and W Rea.
B Shott of Crossfield Alta. will spend 30 days in jail rather than pay 42.60 dollars in fines and costs for failing to file income tax forms for 1942 1943 and 1944. He told police court in Calgary he has no intention of paying the 25 dollar fine plus 17.60 dollars in costs.
Thirty boys were put through their paces by Lieut. A. Matheson, then met on Wednesday evening in the Community hall. Ten men attended. LAC R. Lund and LAC R. Young demonstrated self-defense while J. Greasley led a discussion on the right use of firearms during the hunting season.

It states Japan’s reparations plant stock is far smaller with experts deeming much of its industry virtually worthless. Far Eastern Commission totals Japan reparations claims at 54 billion dollars.
A shortage of refrigerated rail cars disrupts movement of apples and citrus through the Okanagan Valley. The supply halt slows packing and distribution as regions rely on U S freight cars to haul fruit northward. The bottleneck stymies the seasonal apple shipments and related traffic.
The Alberta Social Credit government announced its first bond issue since taking office in 1935. A 2.5 million dollar refunding operation was completed in 1945, with the bond issue sold to a syndicate headed by Wood Gomnly & Co. Lutt of Toronto.
Mrs Fracey of Galt Ont spent eight years assembling a faded bed spread she sent as a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth. The gift earned her a royal invitation to attend an afternoon party at St James's Palace with the King and Queen, courtesy of generous Montreal friends.
More than a dozen pupils of Alex W Whyte performed in a violin recital held at the United church on Thursday evening. J A McKenzie and F Holden addressed the gathering. Participants included Earlene Borrowman Wayne Stanley Basil Bowman Ted Bowman Barry Madden Randall Robins Gailyn Jelliff Kenneth Paddock Ted Taylor George Roberts Leslie Humphries Emil Hain Dorothy Kolotylo Betsy Kenyon Sandra Taylor chaired the event. Accompanists were Mrs Bert Ford and Mrs E Wareham.
An explosion in a crowded Nampa Idaho restaurant tavern Saturday night killed five persons and injured nearly 60. Fire Chief L T Lessinger said the blast likely originated in a gun range area within the restaurant. Thirty four people remained in Nampa hospitals.
