Rivers School Opens October Term

Rivers School will open on September 2. Students planning to write High School examinations next June should begin promptly at term start. The principal will not recommend a student for departmental examinations without a good attendance record. Students repeating the year are advised to note this.

Planning For The Winter At Manitoba Agricultural College

Young people from Manitoba and western provinces plan winter study at the Manitoba Agricultural College. The campus offers a wholesome residence life and courses from two weeks to longer programs in bee keeping engineering dairying poultry marketing and livestock and forage crops. Information and circulars are available from the Registrar.

Distinguished Visitor Lady Byng Ends Canadian Park Visit

Her Excellency Lady Byng completed a holiday at Jasper and Mount Robson parks. While staying at Jasper Park Lodge she visited Mount Edith Cavell and nearby sights by car horse or foot. She departed Jasper on the Continental Limited for Ottawa via Rivers on Thursday afternoon.

Successful Open Tennis Tournament at Community Club

The Open Tennis Tournament held on Thursday August 21 drew 46 couples, surpassing expectations. Weather halted play with finals decided Friday morning. Men's Doubles Bob and Fred Howard defeated T W Ofsen and J J Morrow 8 4. Ladies Doubles Mrs and Mary Barr won 8 6 over Mrs Hodnett and Mrs Hawthorne. Mixed Doubles Bob and Lizzie Howard beat Clarence and Mary Barr 8 7. Consolation events to start Thursday at 2 p.m. Officials thank volunteers and donors including J B Mitchell for court use.

Rivers Council Minutes Mediate Tax Bylaw Adoption

A Rivers Town Council meeting chaired by Mayor Sinclair approved final reading and adoption of Bylaw No. 189 to confirm the 1924 tax rate and levy. The council also appointed Councilor Grummett-Thomas to act as mayor in Sinclair's absence, and the meeting adjourned.

Consecration of Bishop at St Matthew's Church

The consecration service for the new bishop of Brandon will be held at St Matthew's on September 7. Tickets issued to clergy, lay delegates, wardens, officers of women's auxiliaries, MPs for Brandon, and Brandon city officials require definite notification to Rev E A Anderson. Tickets non transferable and must be presented by 10 30 a m to keep seats.
