The town of Rivers began receiving electric light and energy from Manitoba Hydro Saturday at about 5 p.m. after a week of uncertainty and inconvenience. Officials moved quickly, and the installation team completed the poles and wiring efficiently, earning praise for delivering service promptly.

In Montreal on August 23 the National System handed over to the Canadian Legion War Services its designated quarters for service personnel on duty or furlough. Major Alistair Fraser accepted the grant on behalf of R. C. Vaughin and the board. General J. A. Gunn lauded the "magnificent quarters" as he received the property for the legion.

Ration Book No 3 will be distributed from Rivers School on Friday and Saturday August 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m with a farmers only period 8 to 10 p.m Saturday. Ward 1 and 2 residents on Friday Ward 3 on Saturday. Farmers may attend during hours in town. Bring Ration Book No 2 and card.
The third annual No. 1 Central Navigation School Track and Field Meet took place on Thursday August 19 under ideal weather. A large civilian crowd attended, welcomed by Group Captain W A Murray commanding officer. Prizes were awarded by Mrs W A Murray to women winners and by Group Captain Murray to men winners. The morning Wings Parade featured personnel from the station with Group Captain Ashton of No 2 Training Command Winnipeg as a distinguished visitor.
The community hall hosts a Tuesday dance on August 31 featuring Roy Brown Band from Brandon. Music and good time promised for attendees to enjoy live entertainment in the local venue.
At Brandon Hospital on Sunday August 15 1943 a daughter was born to Mr and Mrs K Veenbaas of Rivers. The event expands the local family and adds a new member to the community.
