Town Council Minutes Record August Meeting
The Rivers town council met on Wednesday August 6. The minutes of the last meeting were adopted as read. The secretary was instructed to request information on Returned Soldiers taxes refunds. The Finance Committee report was adopted and $776.17 in accounts approved for payment. By-laws No 120 and 121 received final reading and were passed. Tenders were to be sought for supplying and erecting the electric distribution system. The meeting adjourned.

Patriotic Parade Led by Geo Mitchell and Local News
Five years ago a patriotic parade occurred Saturday night with Geo Mitchell leading a bagpipe procession. Cattle were shot near Bob Brown's property and one cow died. Town youths canvassed for funds for the Hospital ship to be presented to the Imperial Government. $57.50 sent to Winnipeg. Canada tightens wartime bridges after war declaration. Rivers men take guard jobs along the GTP.
