In Ithaca California Matthew Macauley recalls his life as his son Homer begins work as a messenger. Homer bonds with telegraph clerk Will Grogan while a hungry boy asks for help and a mother receives the tragic news that Juan Domingo Sandoval has died in Manila.

A British woman released from Gaer recalls in Berlin she and a Jew wearing the yellow star were stopped by a police officer. When asked why she did not wear the star, she said she was British and not subject to the regulation. the officer saluted and nearly apologized.
Two British soldiers in Palestine composed a song titled Cheerio, Mr Churchill dedicated to Prime Minister Churchill. Music by Cpl R W F Bollen words by Sgt H B Neal. They sent the airgraph with both words and music and the chorus praises Churchill. The song was aired on the BBC Palestine service.
The loaf is hollowed to form a bread case and filled with crumbled leftover meat and vegetables. Season well, moisten with gravy or sauce, replace the top, brush with dripping, and bake at 375F for about 35 minutes until browned. Serve with brown gravy or tomato sauce.
