Canadian plant network to span across Canada under Dominion Tar and Paper

The Dominion Tar and Paper Company plans a nationwide factory chain funded by English interests after a royal visit led by the Earl of Dunmore and Sir Harold Botton. Sites are set in Montreal Winnipeg Vancouver and Toronto as Canada steers trade and industry in the current February report.

Rivers To Have First Class Public Hall

The downstair portion of the building owned by the 10.0F will be converted into a General Purpose Hall. Work includes a new floor posts removed truss rods and beams installed erection of stage and more. Contractor is Mr C Stone and the hall will be open for engagements in a month. Mr L Wiegand is open to bookings.

Rivers School Board Acts on Road Closure Protest

The Rivers School Board met Thursday with Chairman Dunsmore presiding and passed a protest against closing the road east of town. A survey of expected new pupils after summer holidays was ordered, and no beginners will be admitted after Easter due to crowded conditions. R Baily and Mary Dobson were approved as substitute drivers for their vans during seeding. The Chairman and Trustee Ellis were made a committee to discuss railway property assessments with the Town Council.

River Community Club Plans Dance and Quilt Raffle

Members of the Rivers Community Club rally funds for finishing the tennis courts this year. They will host a May 21 dance and raffle an autographed orange and black quilt, hoping both events attract Town and Country support. Ticket price not yet set. drawing at the dance.

Town of Rivers advertises several residential properties for sale owned by the town. Interested buyers must submit offers to the designated adder for council consideration.

Community Dance Shines As Town and Country Bond

The Community Club Dance at Wagar Hall on Wednesday April 2 proved a standout season event. Dick Baily of Pendennis led floor duties to acclaim, with a balanced program of old time dances and Fox Trots. The Society Four orchestra maintained a high musical standard, enhanced by Miss E Mitchell as Banjoist. Bartletts won the Waltzing Competition. Prizes and lunch drew praise. about 35 numbers were danced before the early morning finale.

Daly Council Special Meeting Minutes on Assiniboine Bridge

Daly Council convened March 31 at Wheatland to discuss a bridge over the Assiniboine River between sections 27 28 in Whitehead. Resolutions set a 4000 limit with cost sharing, road land donation, and joint interviews with Daly. other towns agreed to a one third share. The auditor’s report was adopted and the Reeve named to the Brandon rest room board.

Rivers Baseball Club Elects Officers At Town Meeting

At a Town Hall meeting on April 1 officers were elected for the Rivers Baseball Club Hon Pres J A McKenzie President J Charron Vice Pres V Parsons Sec Treas P W Neville Manager E J Forman Asst Manager L Bugger League Representatives J A McKenzie P W Neville Two unequal teams will be chosen to avoid shifting players out of position A dance will be held soon to raise funds.

Rivers Town Council approves several resolutions and contracts

Minutes show Mayor Sinclair presiding as council approves gas pump move, pays $457.96 for electric accounts and $431.01 for finance bills, selling Lot 17 11 for $209 with option to April 4, transferring Lot 18 5 stable to J H Cluff if moved by May, hires H A Inland as assessor for $200, renews Canadian General Electric meter contract, and forms a four member committee to review the east road with a May special meeting adjournment.

The Rivers Curling Club members attended divine service last Sunday with Chaplain Rev. Wilson addressing them. Rivers School reports 173 pupils and the Grain Growers Local has grown to 30 members. FE. J. Forman resigns as Fire Brigade chief. W. J. Cundy elected Conservative candidate for Lansdowne.
