The town began electric service Monday after upgrading with a 2200 volt system replacing 550. The C N R electric gang swiftly changed transformers and a temporary street light connection remains until the new transformer arrives. A turbine driven generator provides more efficient power. the old generator is sent for repairs as a standby unit.
Forman Harvey and Dyer ran a naming contest for their new garage offering a $5 savings account prize. Judges chose Jack Piercy’s entry Reliance as the winner and the garage will bear that name.
Notice from Peter Peterson Pro Tem Manager asks all those with accounts against the Alexandra Hotel to settle them before the end of the week due to haste of management.
The Regular Monthly Meeting of The Rivers Community Club will be held in the Sons of England Hall on Tuesday April 13 at 8 o clock p m. All interested in tennis please be on hand.
A town wide baseball meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 13 at 7 p m in the Town Hall. All interested residents are urged to attend to elect officers review finances and conduct all business. Participants of all ages are asked to help make this meeting a record breaker.
A large crowd attended the Cardale Amateur Dramatic Society presentation What Happened to Jones at Oddfellows Hall last Wednesday under St James ADC auspices. The cast impressed Rivers audiences, with strong performances and ample humor. Miss I Winn managed the company admirably, and financial returns pleased both visitors and the local society.
