Fox's dream still alive Terry Fox Run fuels cancer research across Canada
Canadians in 900 communities joined the 27th Terry Fox Run on September 16 to fund cancer research and keep Fox's legacy alive. National initiatives like National Terry Fox at Work Day and National School Run Day expanded reach with corporate and school participation, aiming to top last year's $28.5 million. In Rivers 18 participants raised $900 and Rapid City residents collected $1,200 with Shirley Martin winning a T shirt prize.

West Nile Virus Cases Rise Across Manitoba in 2007
The week ending Sept 19 adds 38 new West Nile cases, bringing Manitoba's total to 542 with three deaths. Assiniboine leads with 138 cases, Winnipeg 125, Central 104, Brandon 73. Men total 306 infections to 236 women. ages 40 to 59 most affected. Health links provided for more information.

Manitoba reports 2006 07 surplus and growing Fiscal Stabilization Fund
Manitoba public accounts show a 430 million surplus on a summary basis, a 117 million debt reduction, and FSF growth to 663 million. Finance Minister Greg Selinger cites strong economy and prudent management with highway, health care, and education investments and no FSF draw. The report notes highway renewal funding and higher fuel tax expenditures, with balanced budget for eighth straight year and 175 million projected surplus for 2007-08.
