The September to November calendar lists many local gatherings. Senior Services and Diabetic clinics appear alongside municipal, 4-H, plowing and harvest events. Faith groups and the Rivers Centennial Committee also schedule meetings, clinics, and social activities in Rivers and surrounding towns.
The council sold Lots 2-9 Plan 38952 to Irving Wood with an amalgamation plan to consolidate levies. By law 1-2011 the rink levy cannot be removed, so the town absorbed related costs. CAO Kat Bridgeman to attend a Deloraine district meeting Sept 20 with expenses paid. A water and sewer rate increase of 10 to 102 percent with a 42 percent reduction was approved on third reading. Budget actions include a wage raise of 1887.69 to Foreman Jeff Worth effective Sept 1, 2012, and tax adjustments including cancellations and additions. Public notices and bylaw hearings scheduled for Oct 23, Oct 1, and Sept 25 meetings.
A September centennial meeting in Rivers Town Hall outlined a year of celebration for the town’s 100th anniversary on July 27. Plans include a granite ru and plaque, a fundraising drive with a water bottle and coffee container, a marathon option, a parade with corporate sponsorships, a classical concert, school reunions, and art shows. Residents urged to share old photos for display and a centennial website to be updated. a printed public agenda will be circulated. The next meeting is October 9 at 7 p.m.
