Oak River Legion Roots Run Deep Since 1931
Oak River Legion's Branch No 150 traces its origins to 1931 with an Army and Navy League of 47 members. The charter was moved to the province in 1951 and Branch No 150 formed in 1941 with 20 members under first president Harry Thompson. Bob Ramsey leads 18 members today. The Oak River Women's Institute built a memorial hall in 1932 and still supports maintenance with the Legion. An auxiliary formed in 1957 with 12 charter members, now 12 strong with Maxine Shamray as president. Grace Bullock of Rivers remains the last charter member. In 1966 a cairn was erected to Blanshard war dead. The group promotes Legion values through student contests, Donor's Choice, Dodgers support, Remembrance Day services, and drive for drink-can tabs to fund wheelchairs.
