Palliative bed arrives in Rivers after lengthy talks
A new $11,284 automated palliative care bed with a pressure surface mattress has arrived in Rivers to replace a standard hospital bed. The bed aids turning and reducing bed sores while heat and massage ease patient comfort. Riverdale Palliative Care volunteers, led by Deb Ostryzniuk, organized funding with significant donations from Riverdale District Health Auxiliary, Riverdale Palliative Care, and Riverdale Health Services District Foundation. The program, run entirely by volunteers, logged 303 hours with eight patients so far this year and seeks more volunteers through an eight-week Compassionate Care course starting Oct 21.
