Rivers Home and School progresses on an asphalt basketball court project with total costs of 13201. Grants totaling 6000 from Community Services Council and Brandon and Area Foundation along with support from Rolling River School Division Town of Rivers RMs Daly and Blanshard and private fundraising will fund the spring 1997 completion.
Brenda Porter will leave the Daly Saskatchewan Recreation Department effective Oct 25 to take a 14 month office manager role for the Olympic curling trials in Brandon starting November 1997. The recreation commission, serving RMs of Saskatchewan Blanshard Daly and towns Rivers and Rapid City, will search for a new manager and conduct a community assessment to plan a new direction starting January.
In Rivers during Fire Prevention Week October 6 to 12, fire department educators Al Lepp and Cam White led mini lectures for kindergarten to Grade 6 and handed out burn fund pamphlets. One student, seven year old Tiffany Noort, was named fire chief for a day, winning lunch and a ride in a fire truck after being drawn from 208 names.
