Varna Gallinger has cared for her petunia pots for a month calling the blooms a labour of love. She enjoys uncovering them at dawn to admire the deep purple flowers and left a bouquet at the Banner office, prompting several comments during the week.
The curling club kicks off the season on December 3 inviting new members to join. Leagues include ladies on Monday afternoons, men on Monday evenings, seniors Tuesday afternoons, and mixed Friday nights with a possible Wednesday ladies league if interest grows. The Rolling Dale Mustangs Special Olympics club held its second annual variety concert on Oct. 26 with Rivers area talent and strong community support. Proceeds fund new track and bowling uniforms, with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. Ted Smith and Karen Minshull won the display window and gold watch prizes.
Oak River School earned a $900 grant from Grassroots Project after a 2000-2001 Web page project by Frank Sokoloski and his Grade 3-5 class. The funds will boost technology and honor supporters including Rolling Dale staff Stacey Roberts Kelsey Smith John and Shirley Russell Cody Campbell and John MacLellan.
