The amaryllis is a tender Chilean bulb discovered in 1828 by Eduard Frederick Leipzig. It grows 18 to 24 inches tall with blooms four to six inches wide and should be grown in well drained potting mix with regular watering and monthly fertilizer. Proper care extends flowering and bulb growth over years.
