Fires Race Through Rural Fields Near Garbutt Farm
On Wednesday May 11 the Rivers Fire Department fought a grass fire at the Beth Smith farm five miles east on Highway 25 as strong winds blew straw piles into adjacent fields. Within 30 minutes the Rapid City department responded to a second grass fire at the old Archibald farm where a vacant shed burned but had little value. Trans Canada Pipeline aided by letting trucks fill up at their station nearby, saving about 30 minutes per trip.
