Livery stables, elevators, and jubilee mark Rivers history
In early 1900s Rivers housed two livery stables including the Horse Palace built by Sam J. McLennan, later owned by Mills brothers, Alex Henry, and A. W. Webster. The Security Elevator Co. planned a 30,000 bushel elevator but it burned in 1911. A 1930 open air Jubilee service honored Manitoba’s Diamond Jubilee with local officials and clergy. The 1935 Thompson Block near McKenzie’s Store was slated for council offices.
