Dr Preston notes cattle and horses may eat snow for water but should not rely on it. Many areas lack snow cover, requiring daily watering. Open dugouts or sloughs daily unless running water exists. Livestock on pasture need shelter as winter progresses, with options from bluffs to makeshift round bale shelters. Producers should consider wintering facilities if feed and water are scarce.
