Former residents reunited in opera in Hamilton

In late October performances of The Barber of Seville in Hamilton Ontario Hugh Russell sang the title role with Gordon Gerrard conducting. Both grew up in Rivers and the Rivers/Oak River district and attended Rivers Collegiate. Gordon is son of Alex and Marianne Gerrard now in Brandon. Hugh is son of John and Shirley Russell of Rivers. Gordon holds music degrees from Manitoba and Manhattan School of Music and Oberlin. Hugh holds degrees from Brandon University Eastman and Oberlin with an artist diploma. Both have performed widely in North America and Europe, with Gordon earning the 2009 Mayor's Arts Award for Emerging Artists in Calgary.

Telehealth grant boosts Riverdale Health Centre project

Riverdale District Health Auxiliary receives 7500 from Brandon Area Community Foundation at the Grant Gala to fund Telehealth equipment for Riverdale Health Centre. The service aims to cut patient travel and support care across Manitoba with Assiniboine Regional Health Authority covering operating costs. The project seeks a March 2012 readiness, pending install and training.
