Ken Waddell argues that Canada Post faces structural flaws from its monopoly and Crown status. He predicts the system will fail regardless of worker action, noting faxes and email erode first class mail and calling for reforms beyond recent government reviews.
Neepawa plans to drain and close the Riverbend campground pool after late August, despite calls to stay open into September. Councillor Ron Forsman questions the timing as lifeguards leave for university and Patti Robertson notes limited funding for extended hours, though a weekends-only September option is being considered.
Forsman says there is political will to reopen the pool longer next year. The pool sold 143 children's passes and 33 student passes this summer while attendance in swimming lessons rose since the late 1996 opening. Labour Day closure endangers Riverbend campground and local tourism tied to Minnedosa events. Neepawa faces a $270,000 pool upgrade that still leaves it open only three months a year. The town’s decision to close next week sounds like money draining away.
