Tara Common shines at Legion Camp selection for Team Manitoba

Tara Common, 15, earned a place on Team Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario after impressing judges at the International Legion Athletic Camp at Peace Gardens. She departed Aug. 14 for a week in Quebec for national track events and aims to build on a season with multiple provincial and school meets wins. More than 1,200 amateur athletes will attend Legion Athletic Camp this summer offering 11 sports for junior and senior high athletes.

Can Am Games veteran Dave Scott wins two golds in Spokane

Canadian Ojibway constable Dave Scott, active since 1985, claimed two golds at the 2002 Can Am Police and Fire Games in Spokane. He benched 370 pounds in the 220 pound masters class and totaled 1250 pounds across squat deadlift and bench. The event marked the 25th anniversary and honored 9/11 victims. Next Games scheduled for London Ontario in 2004.

Rural diabetes study seeks adult participants in Manitoba

A Brandon University led project funded by the Canadian Diabetes Association invites adults over 30 in the Hamiota and Shoal Lake area to participate in a survey on diabetes education and clinic impact. The study compares clinic attendees with those receiving other care to improve rural diabetes support.
