Rivers 50 Club April meeting notes and community updates
The Rivers 50 Club met April 18 with 33 members. Nora McBurnney welcomed members and read a Queen Mother visit article from 1939. Members sent cards to six, and Cliff and Beryle Burt celebrated their 60th anniversary. The Westman meeting featured an Alzheimer Society speaker. MSOS criticized rising gas and electricity costs. Foxwarren donated a quilt to the silent auction. Westman supported MSOS. Percy Rosamond resigned as Senior Services secretary after 14 years. Terry Christie replaced Joe Swoiyk on the board. The club averages 25 at senior suppers. Rivers In Bloom raised about 500 for baskets and planters. Planters Day is May 11. sunflowers seeds still for sale. Regional games progress in Hamiota, Birtle, Deloraine, Foxwarren, St. Lazare. The table committee updates machac and plastic covers. Nola attended a Rivers Legion workshop April 22 and will share ideas. A committee will compare wallboard versus repainting the senior room. A new scholarship will be awarded to a deserving undergraduate. The head table hosted birthday guest Mabel Brown and anniversaries for Bob and Charlotte MacDonald and John and Helen Dyck. Lunch served by several helpers. beverages, ice cream and cake enjoyed.
