Conservation easement protects unique Oak Lake Sandhills habitat
Jon and Angie Drinkwalter placed a Conservation Agreement on their southeast Virden property to permanently protect Oak Lake Sandhills and Wetlands Natural Area. The site hosts rare plants such as sand bluestem spinystar and silky prairie clover, plus endangered species. The family uses the land for recreation, hunting with permissions, and potential future pasture, while NCC notes the blowouts host diverse flora and fauna including sand tiger beetles and several large mammals.
