Rivers area celebrates centennial with logo decisions and events
In the absence of president Lorne Green vice president Susan Childerhose led a March 21 Rivers and District Chamber of Commerce meeting at Lee's Restaurant with about 20 members. They reviewed three Jill White railway themed logo designs for the 100th anniversary and planned to use the chosen logo on the centennial website and a separate design for T shirts for July 27 2013 celebrations. The meeting covered a centennial report by Shelley Foster and tentative plans for a kickoff New Year’s dance. Additional plans included Happy Days August 10–11 and the Home and Craft Show September 15 at Riverdale Community Centre. Youth employment discussions touched on Manitoba Youth Job Centre, while Rolling River School Division outlined a May 31 concert featuring four high schools and elementary students. Traffic measures will close the 500 block of Second Avenue for a come-and-go concert, with lunch planned by schools and lawn chairs welcome. River and district brochures will be updated, with 1500 copies for circulation and tourist info placed at Rivers Provincial Park registration.
