The Moresby Island Lumber property including a 75000 ft daily sawmill at Queen Charlotte City and nearby timber limits has changed hands to North American Timber & Holdings Co of Chicago. Local timbermen join the new group and expansions and operations are anticipated soon.

A well attended Queen Charlotte Hospital Society meeting on Friday February 7 elects a year’s board of management. W J Smith chairs. bylaws revised. a 1000 government trust disbursement statement sought. lease terms for hospital grounds discussed with J E Corlett and D R Young to provide financial details.

Valentine Party at Beattie Parlor Cheers Residents

A St Valentine’s party was held Friday night at Mr. G D Beattie’s casey parlors with many attendees enjoying cards games and dancing. Mr Puttman who supervised the fertilizer plant project for Westholm Lumber Co left for Victoria last week. Mr T Forbes local manager for B G Fisheries sailed Tuesday on the trawler Triumph to Rupert.

Islands Get 26250 in Dominion Estimates

The Dominion Government estimates for 1918-14 were tabled in the House of Commons. The Queen Charlotte Islands appropriations total 26250 with 18750 for a Massett to Dead Tree Point telegraph line. A Massett wharf is funded at 7500 and Sandspit wharf at 5000.

Lawn Hill Buoy Repaired During Northern Voyage

The steamer Quadra under Captain Macpherson arrived at Aliford Bay to service aids to navigation. It towed the Lawn Hill buoy and recharged its light, replacing the buoy and planning yearly upkeep. The voyage supplied Langara Island lighthouse materials amid severe weather delays and noted Cape St. James lighthouse construction to start this summer.

Socialist Party Branch Formed in Skidegate Chapter

A local Socialist Party branch has been organized and a meeting planned for last Sunday in Skidegate was postponed to a later date.

Local Board Seeks Higher Provincial Grant and Indian Aid

The board aims to secure an increase in the provincial grant from $800 to $5000 per annum and to request support from Hon. Dr. Young. Efforts will also target Indian grant assistance with M. P. H. S. Clements to be written to. The secretary Mr. Kitson was thanked for his services and members expressed optimism for the future with broad support from employers and the public.
