Indian Head district trustees of St Andrews Presbyterian seek to secure an ordained minister amid tensions caused by a few "kickers" in the south east area. The effort aims to stabilize church service at the camp and support for the congregation.
On Tuesday the 18th inst about 20 oclock William Dixon of this place was riding on a load of sheaves when the load shifted and he fell. One of the horses kicked him and a wheel ran over him causing internal injuries that proved fatal after five hours. He was 42, a widower, and leaves an aged father and sisters.
E A Baker and Co begin building a grain warehouse as threshing starts. The Railway Stationists' Association names J A Mererer of the Northwest Territories as president with F G Corley of Kentucky as treasurer and L A Clark of California as secretary. Attendees include J A Kammerer T E Birbeck from Moose Jaw C E Lang Portage la Prairie and W Shuman Monmouth as Canadian Northwest delegates. The crop boom spurs building repairs and new sidewalks while the English church meets completion in concrete.
Special council minutes show deputation from QuAppelle Board of Trade seeking Mr E Cullen as immigrant agent to promote settlement from the British Isles and Europe with staged payments. Other items include tax arrears, grant requests, debenture purchases, and by laws on borrowing and notes to J J Taylor.
Kansas Attorney General Brailford reports improved Prohibition results with lower crime and fewer paupers in six months. He cites fewer liquor sales prosecutions failing and many residents claiming years without drinking, while public drinkers decline and enforcement strengthens.
The first grain marked this season was 76 bushels of oats delivered Friday to M. McCauley by McLeod Bros of Little Mountain at $1 a bushel. Letters from Fort Chipewyan and Athabasca report high Lake Athabasca levels and a heavy frost at Lesser Slave Lake. Gardens prosper, potatoes large, and vegetables abundant though ducks are scarce as geese begin to arrive.
A Canadian colonization company plans freight shipments to Munda through Dawa with more train loads. Waldron Ranch Co will ship a train load from Medicine Hat on October 1. Bow River Ranch Co plans another shipment near month end. Each train has fifteen cars carrying eighteen animals. Nine train loads of stock from the north are noted.
A limited Tas offer runs through January 1 with a single ticket priced at one dollar. The deal emphasizes affordability and a brief window to claim the item.
