Death of William Dixon in farming accident at Chickney

On Tuesday the 18th inst about 20 oclock William Dixon of this place was riding on a load of sheaves when the load shifted and he fell. One of the horses kicked him and a wheel ran over him causing internal injuries that proved fatal after five hours. He was 42, a widower, and leaves an aged father and sisters.

Letters from Fort Chipewyan and Athabasca report high Lake Athabasca levels and a heavy frost at Lesser Slave Lake. Gardens prosper, potatoes large, and vegetables abundant though ducks are scarce as geese begin to arrive.

Stock trains to river settlements from Medicine Hat region

A Canadian colonization company plans freight shipments to Munda through Dawa with more train loads. Waldron Ranch Co will ship a train load from Medicine Hat on October 1. Bow River Ranch Co plans another shipment near month end. Each train has fifteen cars carrying eighteen animals. Nine train loads of stock from the north are noted.
