Wolseley School Shifts to Afternoon Hours and Forms Society

The Wolseley S school now meets in the afternoon. New classes formed and T L Bray becomes superintendent. Mr Gibbs reports on a government well boring machine project aiding settlers. A public meeting December 8 elected officers for a new literary society and set weekly Wednesday meetings.

North-West Indian Head Masonic meeting and send off

The North-West section reports a Monday meeting of the Indian Head Masonic Lodge with D. D. G. M. James Weidman visiting officially. A send off for Councillor Kirkland on the 29th featured a first class supper, with Bell as chair and Mr. M. as vice chair and toasts celebrated, including the guest of honor.

Moose Jaw Update and Local Fires and Growth

J E Annable returns to Moose Jaw and opens a store after a long absence. The Church of St John the Baptist's new dell is in place and the church nears completion. A fire at F Plante’s store caused little damage. Settler interest grows with many land entries and a buoyant mood ahead of spring. The Moose Jaw Agricultural Society elected E R Rothwell as president and named officers for the coming year.

Assiniboia Roller Mills Set Record Output and Local Updates

The Assiniboia roller mills run day and night at about 120 barrels per 24 hours under Mr. J. Brigham. A boy named Garner from eight miles north of Wapella broke his leg when his horse stumbled and fell on him. A brass band meeting at Queen's Hotel elected L. D. Keown as President and appointed officers. directors James Stosh John Riddell and N. G. McCs discussed instrument allotments.

First Northern Alberta curling match and St Andrew’s Society

The report notes the first curling match in Northern Alberta held on St Andrew's day at the fort rink with rinks led by G J Kinnard D G McQueen J Johnson and others. A St Andrew's Society meeting followed with officers elected.

Sixth annual Grenfell Age Society meeting held at Grand Union Hotel

The sixth annual meeting of the Grenfell Age Society took place at the Grand Union Hotel on Monday evening. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: A. W. Crush president, Thomas W. Wright vice president, G. B. Ball second vice, T. H. Hoben, W. Dixon, Richard Skrine, J. McDowell, Edward Fitzgerald, Fr. Cay, R. E Sherlock auditor.

Winter in the North Poem Fragment on Prairie Snow

A fragmentary poem depicts deep snow on the prairie as birds migrate southward and coyotes leave tracks. The narrator notes the silent Indian on the trail pursuing kin, and wolves and foxes moving through a white, harsh landscape toward distant bluffs and reserves.
