Maidens Seek Tax on Old Maids to Fund Charity

A fragment from a satirical epistle from S J R E posing as Beings urging royal support for old maids. They lament neglect of their class and propose a tax on betrothal or celibacy, with proceeds to augment legacies for marriages and public benefit. They cite Matrimony as royal policy and reference Gloucester subscriptions and Magdalen Hospital substitutes.

Election notices for Bridewell Bethlem surgeons and lottery ads

Public notices seek votes for GEORGE NEWLAND and GEORGE MORRIS to be Surgeon to Bridewell and Bethlem Hospitals in place of Charles Wheeler. Lottery schemes describe prizes, tickets, and offices in London with details on payouts and dates in 1764 1768. Also ads for property disposal and notices of ship movements and auctions.
