Sturdy Beggar retakes privateer Fox after brutal engagement
In Antigua Bay St John March 12, the Fox of New York commanded by Robert Troup engaged Capricieux a French privateer. After fierce fighting from dawn to early afternoon, the Fox sank Capricieux and its crew but the Sturdy Beggar later ran aground while escorting the prize. Capt. Drew and several aboard survived though with injuries. several French crew were killed or wounded and are to be sent to England.
