Narrative from Vigo May 3 1761 recounts the April 4 1761 capture of the Speedwell by the French ship Achilles in the Bayonne Islands off Oporto. The Speedwell was disabled, the French crew treated captives harshly, and the English officers pressed their case with Spanish authorities and the Madrid court, amid allegations of violation of neutrality.
