The Seahorse and Unicorn a Naval Duel Revised
The Seahorse, a twenty gun ship, engaged the French frigate Opale off the Downs. After a fierce exchange of broadsides and close combat, the Seahorse prevailed, forcing the enemy to withdraw with heavy casualties, while the Unicorn and prize vessel sailed away. Twenty two or so wounded and eleven killed among 169 aboard. The action ranks among the era’s great naval fights.
