He muses on fame, happiness, and the fragility of human progress amid a climate of war, while noting a diary entry from a philosopher in a distant city and reflecting on planetary motion.

From the London Gazette dated December 2 reports Baron Coccedi present to the King of Prussia with confirmation of a late triumph near Torgau in Saxony against Marshal Daun’s Austrian army. The Prussians reportedly captured 216 Austrian officers including four generals, over 800 private men, fifty cannons, and suffered about 2,500 killed and 4,900 wounded. Marshal Daun wounded, King Frederick II slight chest contusion. Further Saxony news notes Prussia moving toward Dresden after Meissen.
