In a genteel garden encounter, publisher Manyheets and printer Fairtype press a plan to run a new periodical the Ledger. The narrator agrees to publish an essay about himself and vows openness, while the pair press for secrecy about authorship and a celebrity-based title.
Shipping news from Penzance and nearby ports lists arrivals and sailings from April, noting vessels such as the Pumpeny and Blewit from London, Adventus from Truro bound for Wales, and the Bridget and Mary for Falnouth. Several packets and brigs depart for Lisbon, London, and Lee, with multiple vessels arriving from Sunderland, Chester, and London, including the Brilliant Star bound for Newfoundland and the Sidlefomb from Shor Southampton.

Capt Stroud with Milford man of war on Good Friday. ships from Bristol convoy 260 leagues west of Scilly. The Lynn arrived from Plymouth. Princess Amelia from Plymouth to the Bay. A sloop of war sailed from Plymouth on a cruise. John and Mary back after leaving the Downs convoy.
