Surf Inlet Mines Improve Under Belmont Development

F W Holler the Surf Inlet mines superintendent reports continued improvement in development at the Surf Inlet property near the head of the lake. The dam is finished and permanent quarters for men and offices are under construction. Ample labor has remained available, and operations show no interference, signaling stronger prospects for production.

Woman miner Bonnie Cleveland strikes it rich in Alaska

Mrs. Bonnie Cleveland of Fairbanks, long famed as a woman prospector, allegedly struck a rich fortune on Woodchopper Creek after years of mining and financing prospectors. She endured repeated near bankruptcy and sunk about 70 000 before the late strike, gaining a reputation for nerve and daring in Alaskan gold mining.

Germany to protest over British use of tanks on Western Front

Geneva report says Germany will file a complaint with the International Red Cross Society alleging that tanks violate civilized warfare. A British engineer officer who helped develop the tanks is described as keeping his role secret while the armored vehicles advance through shell craters to reach a Canadian brigadier.

Rebuked Judge For Accepting Fees In Commission Hearings

Hon. R. Rogers testified before the Agricultural College Commission in Winnipeg arguing judges should not accept fees for presiding over inquiries. He cited the Judges Act and warned that accepting money would amount to graft. The commissioner pushed back citing limits of authority. Commission Reaches Prince Rupert for Railway Nationalization Study
